12 to 14 hours of shouldering cameras, lugging gear, transferring footage, charging batteries and waking up at 4:00 am to do it all again for 10 days straight. It’s never glamorous, it’s always exhausting and these guys never complain. For me, this is the eighth season of producing HOTV. For Johnny and Steven, it’s their second season, but based on their footage, work ethic and attitudes you’d think it was old hat. Shadows are horrendous, matching color temperature is critical, and being persistent at getting everything dialed in correctly is 🔑 . Today marks the end of an era at EMP. Today is Kevin’s last day. Not many people know this, but almost ten years ago Kevin’s dad purchased us our first camera and tripod. He also wrote our business plan which earned us second place in the EntrePaducah competition for new businesses. I’ve always been a guy who just wanted to shoot and edit video. Kevin was always the business side of our little company, but before long he became a skilled videographer and editor in his own right. EMP had a difficult first few years and during that time Kevin earned a position at Trees N Trends producing video content. He did a tremendous job and a couple years later when EMP was finally gaining traction and I had the opportunity to hire some help, Kevin was my first and only phone call. In the years since, we’ve traveled all over North America together. We’ve nearly frozen to death in Canada, ridden barges down the river, traversed the deserts of Arizona, crashed our drone in front of Ozzie Smith, got yelled at by Whitie Herzog, climbed mountains in Washington, spent two weeks in an RV in Alabama for Mardi Gras and countless other experiences. We’ve worked with banks, hospitals, trampoline manufacturers, barn builders, ammo manufacturers, realtors, attorneys, schools, chiropractors, car dealerships, barge lines, tool companies and just about every type of business you can think of. No matter the client, no matter the place, no matter the conditions, Kevin has been our backbone. When we’re on the road for our TV show he’s working 16 hour days for 10 days straight. He’s the first one up and the last one to bed every time. I’ve always asked more than is fair of Kevin, and he has always gone above and beyond. We are sad to see him go, and envious of his new employers. So thank you, Kevin, for everything you’ve done. EMP would not be what it is today without you. -Curt
